Ready to replace your lawn but not interested in doing the removal yourself? Nonprofit Resource Central’s Lawn Removal Service is a professional removal service rooted in conservation.

This service makes transitioning to a waterwise landscape simple and stress-free. Participants receive professional lawn removal services that create a clean slate for their next landscape chapter, all while contributing to meaningful water conservation across Colorado.

This service is for professional removal only. We also offer a Do-It-Yourself option if you want to take on the project yourself.

The application opens in early spring, and our conservation crews operate from late May through late summer, weather dependent. Appointments open on a rolling basis, allowing you to select a date that fits your schedule.

How Our Removal Services Work

Our crew arrives with professional sod-cutting equipment, removes your unwanted turf, and hauls it away for composting. When the work is complete, you are left with a clean, soil ready for your waterwise landscape plans.

1. Is Your Lawn Ready For Removal?

Let’s make sure your lawn qualifies:

It is healthy and well-maintained
It has not already been removed
You want to replace your lawn with at least 50% of plant material

2. Check For Your Discount And Apply

Our 2026 application is closed. Sign up for our interest list/newsletter for updates on our 2027 application.

Select your participating water provider or municipality to check if you’re eligible for a discounted lawn removal service. This eligibility list is based on 2026 water partners.

Denver water is experiencing extremely high demand this year and is currently at capacity. Any new applications submitted may not be processed for the 2026 season. Thank you for understanding, and please check back in 2027!

Your benefit provides you with the flexibility to use your discount how you want. Apply your discount to our Lawn Removal Service or Garden In A Box kits.

Resource Central is excited to support turf removal efforts statewide! Through a generous grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, discounts up to $750 are available to participants outside of partnering entities. This discount applies exclusively to Resource Central's Lawn Removal Service.

What you receive:
- Discounted Removal Service or Garden In A Box kits
- Planning, design, and maintenance resources
- Access to optional consultation with expert staff

To participate, you must submit an application along with:
- Measurements and photos (without snow) of the project area
- A recent water bill with visible account number
- After approval, 50% deposit to reserve your project

What you receive:
- Discounted Removal Service
- Planning, design, and maintenance resources
- Access to consultations with expert staff

To participate, we will need:
- Measurements and photos with project area outlined
- A recent water bill with account the number visible
- A deposit of 50% (refundable until contract deadline)

Unfortunately, your water utility or municipality does not offer a discount at this time.
You can still hire Resource Central for removal services at a rate of $2.50 per sq ft.

3. Get Approved Before Starting Your Lawn Replacement Project

Once your application is approved, you will be able to start planning for your new waterwise landscape:

Starting in early spring 2027, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis
Invitations to schedule Lawn Removal Service will be sent on a rolling basis
Our conservation crew starts Lawn Removal Service in mid-May and wraps up in late summer
We’re removing thirsty grass around the Front Range and will do our best to schedule based on project density and region to conserve resources

4. Bring Your Waterwise Yard to Life

Within six months of removal, transform your space with at least 50% waterwise plant material and start building a more resilient landscape.
