ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Many homeowners’ associations (HOAs) don’t know where to begin when replacing turf with waterwise alternatives that are easier and more cost effective to maintain. Our program is here to help projects get started, with guidance, resources, and support from start to finish.
Consultations include check-ins to help keep the project moving forward, as well as a resource packet full of information. The consultation program is free to a limited number of HOAs, and successful participants will receive a grant to put toward their project!
To participate in the program, proposed projects must replace at least 5,000 sq. ft. of turf, achieve at least 50% plant coverage, avoid chemical turf removal methods, and be completed by September 30, 2027. The property must also be located within a participating service area or municipality and have preliminary HOA board approval. Projects that do not meet these requirements may not be eligible for the program.

Homeowners Association board and committee members that want to save water on their common spaces by converting turfgrass to waterwise turf.
Waterwise perennials, native grasses such as buffalograss and blue grama, and drought-tolerant turf cultivars are all great options. Through the program, we can help you decide.
Costs can range from $1.00 per square foot for native grass projects to $5 to $10 per square foot for waterwise perennial projects, depending on the complexity of the design.
Non-vegetative surfaces (like rock) can make the area hotter, which we want to avoid. Plants also provide a great habitat for pollinators!
Resource Central does not currently have the capacity to remove >5,000 square feet of turf. HOAs with very small areas and individual residents can check out our Lawn Replacement website if you’re interested in removing turf on your property.
