How to Donate Flagstone and Other Landscaping Rocks

4 Ways to Donate Flagstone and Other Landscaping Rocks

Flagstone is a versatile stone that can be used for various landscaping projects, from patios to walkways. Because it’s so durable, it can last a lifetime. Of course, this can pose a challenge if you ever want to replace it.

Whether you’re updating the pavers with something more modern or you want to remove them entirely and add a garden to the space, you’re going to have to find a new home for all the old landscaping rocks. The good news? It’s fairly easy to donate flagstone.

Here are four ways to get rid of the extra landscaping rocks that are lying around after your project is complete:

1. Advertise on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace

There are a lot of people out there looking for free or cheap landscaping materials, and they’ll pick it up themselves. By advertising your flagstone on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, you can reach a large local audience. Be sure to include clear photos and a detailed description of your flagstone, so the new owners know exactly what they’re getting.

2. Place the Rocks Outside Your Home

If you’re not in a hurry to get rid of your flagstone and you live in a fairly busy neighborhood with lots of passing traffic, it may be worthwhile to simply place it outside with a sign that says “FREE.” Make sure to check local regulations and HOA bylaws before doing so, however, as the stones could be considered problematic after a certain amount of time.

3. Donate to a Recycling Center or Charity Drive

Many recycling centers and charity drives accept donations of landscaping materials. This is a great option if you want to help your community and support development efforts. When donating to a recycling center, be sure to call ahead to see if they accept the landscaping material.

4. Give to a Local Landscaping Company

Landscaping companies are often looking for new materials to use in their projects. By donating your flagstone to a local contractor, you can help them create beautiful new landscapes for their clients.
