On behalf of the team at Resource Central, we sincerely hope that this Earth Day message finds you and your loved ones healthy and comforted by the rejuvenation that comes with the springtime.
We are filled with gratitude by the outpouring of support for our staff and conservation programs throughout this crisis.
Over the past few weeks we have made many difficult decisions, including temporarily closing our building materials reuse center, postponing our school energy program, and working through distribution logistics for our popular Garden In A Box and other water conservation programs. Your support has made it easier for us to continue to prioritize health and safety while we forge a new path ahead.
As we honor the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, the planet needs our help more than ever. COVID-19 is highlighting our dysfunctional relationship with nature and it is clear that the connection between people’s health and our planet’s health is inseparable.
In 1970 Earth Day was created by former Senator Gaylord Nelson after 20 million Americans went to the streets to demand federal protections to our air and water. While the Clean Air Act and several other natural resource conservation bills resulted in sweeping changes that lasted five decades, an assault on our natural resources has been revived. However, we can respond with individual actions in our homes and communities to protect our planet.
Putting conservation into action is the mission of Resource Central. In 2019, you and 70,000 Colorado families participated in our programs and made an impact through your actions that:
– Conserved 285 million gallons of water,
– Reused 4 million pounds of building materials; and
– Educated and inspired 27,000 students from 50 schools to save energy.
I understand that many of you are experiencing hardships at this time and we want you to take care of yourself and your families. But many of you have asked how you can help.
If you are able to, we would be grateful if you could make a donation in honor of Earth Day to help support Resource Central’s mission to catalyze climate action in our community. It’s needed now more than ever.
