A Record-Breaking Year for Conservation: Thanks to YOU!

Wow—what a year it’s been! As we reflect on 2024, we’re excited to share that Resource Central’s conservation programs have had a record-breaking year—and it’s all thanks to YOU, our amazing participants. Whether you swapped your thirsty lawn for a waterwise Garden In A Box or gave your home a sustainable upgrade with reclaimed materials from the Materials Reuse facility, you’ve played a key role in making this year a huge success for conservation!

Garden In A Box

  • 13,173 low water gardens distributed
  • 45 pick up events held across Colorado
  • At least 5 plants renamed by the team to things like “Spikey Dude,” “Floofy Thingy,” and “Weird Purple Guy”

Lawn Replacement

  • 787 program participants removed their turf this year
  • 427,673 square feet of grass were removed in total
  • Our lawn replacement staff pet approximately 146 dogs and ate 114 Snarfs sandwiches

Materials Reuse

  • 60,427 program participants welcomed to the facility
  • Nearly 1,000 free donation pickups completed
  • 6,605 individual tools diverted from the landfill

Renew Our Schools

  • 28,363 students impacted by a Renew Our Schools competition
  • 787 school energy actions executed
  • 46 schools saved 3.5% in energy—enough to power an LED lightbulb for 5 million hours, or light a classroom for decades!

Slow the Flow

  • 2,893 residential sprinkler evaluations completed
  • 12,103,310 sq ft of landscape evaluated
  • 543 sprinklers intentionally frolicked through to cool off
