Generally accepted roofing materials include the following items, each of which must meet the condition standards described above:

Materials We Can’t Accept

How to Drop Off or Recycle Roofing Materials at Resource Central
Thank you for considering reuse for your unneeded or surplus roofing and building materials. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Confirm Materials Qualify
Step one is to confirm your materials qualify. Review the accepted items list or give us a call at 303-419-5418. If you’re unsure, a quick phone call or email saves everyone a trip.
Step 2: Choose Drop-off Method
Step two is to choose how you want to drop off your materials. You have two options. The first is a drive-through drop-off at our Boulder facility at 6400 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO 80303, where the drop-off lane is open Monday through Saturday, 9am to 4pm. The second is a free home pickup for larger loads, typically scheduled within 5 to 10 business days of your request. Our team operates within an approximately 30 minute driving radius of our facility in Boulder. For home pickup, simply fill out the quick form at resourcecentral.org/prequalifying-material-donations/ with a description and photos of your materials. Step 3: Hand Off Materials
Step four is to hand off your materials. Whether you drive up to the donation lane or site or meet our pickup crew at your jobsite or driveway, our team will take it from there! We will handle the loading or unloading, helping you save time and labor.

Step five is to receive your donation receipt. Every donation of reusable materials to Resource Central is tax-deductible, a win-win for you and the planet!

Frequently Asked Questions About Recycling Roofing Materials
Can I drop off used asphalt shingles?
Generally no. Used asphalt shingles pulled from an existing roof can’t be resold for reuse on another home, so we aren’t able to accept them. Unused bundles still in their original packaging, though, are welcome.
How far does the free pickup service travel?
Our free home pickup typically covers within about 30 minutes of our Boulder facility at 6400 Arapahoe Road. We make exceptions for larger high-quality loads from farther out on the Front Range, so if you’re a bit outside that range it’s worth asking.
How long does it take to schedule a pickup?
Pickups are usually scheduled within 5 to 10 business days of submitting the prequalifying form. Larger or more complex loads may take a little longer to coordinate.
What is the difference between reusing and recycling roofing materials?
Reuse extends a material’s useful life by putting it back into a home, intact and in service. Recycling breaks the material down into raw inputs for new products. Reuse sits above recycling on the EPA’s waste hierarchy because it preserves more of the energy and resources already invested in the material. When materials can’t be reused, they may be recyclable through Eco-Cycle, a local nonprofit recycling partner, to ensure scrap metal and other qualifying materials are recycled responsibly rather than sent to a landfill.
