Green Mountain High School Stage with new lights

Green Mountain High School’s LED Retrofit Success

Sometimes Resource Central is able to offer mega prizes to competitors due to relationships with local partners. That was the case during the Fall 2022 Renew Our Schools competition when we were able to award over $80,000 in cash prizes to Jefferson County School District’s (Colorado) winning schools. Students at Green Mountain High School brought the energy to win their Fall 2022 cohort! After careful consideration of how best to use their prize dollars, and in collaboration with school and district administrators, Green Mountain High School’s theater got a major upgrade, thanks to their $23,000 award. With this funding, they retrofitted their theater lights with new LED fixtures, saving a whopping 8,167 watts. This not only cuts down on electricity costs but also gave the stage a sleek, professional look.

How the lights made a difference

The theater was using 19 incandescent fixtures on the catwalk to fully light the stage.

  • 575 watts average for each fixture
  • 10,925 watts total

The new (9) LED Colorsource V’s combined with the recently added (5) Colorsource V’s will be (14) LED fixtures to fulfill what 19 incandescent were needed to do before.

  • Each Colorsource V is 197 watts each (the minimum power consumption is 2 watts each)
  • 2,758 watts total

The new Colorsource fixtures are a game-changer. They provide a cleaner, color-changing light, eliminating the need to refocus every few weeks or buy new gel colors for each show. This upgrade means no more trips to the hard-to-reach catwalk to replace lamps, refocus fixtures, or swap gels.

Now, the catwalk is practically off-limits for lighting maintenance, saving the school time, resources, and energy. Green Mountain High is not only conserving energy but also making their theater productions run smoother and look better.
