Hammer Sculpture: Creative Reuse in Action

After years of dreaming, sketching, collecting, welding, and hoisting…

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2026, we unveiled “You’re Either the Hammer or the Nail” by celebrated artist Mitch Levin of High Voltage Studio.

Artist’s statement: This sculpture has been in the works for more than eight years and reflects a long-standing idea to create something meaningful from reused materials. Built from over 350 reclaimed hammers, most sourced from Resource Central, it brings together tools that have already had a life of use and gives them a new form. Standing 13 feet tall, made up of more than 1,300 pieces, and engineered with an 11-degree lean, the work shows how everyday materials can be transformed in unexpected ways.
