Resource Central Collects 20 Truckloads of Materials Diverted from Landfills During CU Boulder Moveout

Beat the Heat Sustainably: Dozens of Diverted Fans Available at Resource Central, 6400 Arapahoe Road in Boulder Starting May 18

BOULDER, COLO. – Last week, Resource Central, an innovative award-winning nonprofit organization, collected over 20 truckloads of home goods during student move out at the University of Colorado Boulder. Now in its fifth year, the partnership between Resource Central and the Environmental Center at CU Boulder aims to divert unwanted items from landfills, making the campus clean up process more environmentally friendly.

Starting May 18, Resource Central will offer these reclaimed items to the public. Community members can find fans, heaters, small appliances, lamps, mirrors, organizing bins, decorations, tableware, and more at Resource Central’s Materials Reuse facility at 6400 Arapahoe Road in Boulder.

“By reusing these resources with our community, we can take a significant step towards a cleaner and greener future,” said Neal Lurie, President and CEO of Resource Central. “Current students can easily donate their dorm essentials, and community members can benefit from gently used home goods.”

Since 2019, nearly 65,000 lbs of usable materials have been diverted from landfills. This year, the range of accepted items has been broadened, which will likely result in an increase in the volume of items collected.

“Our continued relationship with Resource Central has been integral to the current success of our Give & Go Donation Program,” said Angie Gilbert, Zero Waste Program Manager at the CU Environmental Center. “We focus on sustainable solutions, social responsibility, and the promotion of a more circular economy, thus creating positive impact in the community during this major event.”
